Step 12 – Myth Busting: Myth #3 – Pine Oils are toxic to Cats

Section image

Myth # 3 is this: “Pine oils are toxic to cats.” A-pinene is a component in over 400 Essential Oils and is also an ingredient in popular pine cleaning solutions. There was a report in 1986 of a toxicity with this product, but it was for the synthetic product, not an Essential Oil. No reports of pine oil toxicity have been made. The Eucalyptus plant is listed on ASPCA as a toxic plant to cats when ingested. Topical and Oral preparations of Eucalyptus should be avoided. Instead, diffusing two to three drops in an open room is recommended. If you prefer a more cautious approach, you can diffuse Cardamom Essential Oil for respiratory system support.
