Step 5 – How to Use Oils around Cats

Section image

You may have noticed that there is a lot of scary stuff out there on the Internet about using Essential Oils around CATS. But not to worry: Dr. Janet Roark, the Essential Oil Vet, will help you understand the complexities regarding cats, as well as how to safely use Essential Oils around them. In this class, we’ll demystify once and for all the myths, and learn the truth about Essential Oils and Cats. We’ll put your mind at ease about what Essential Oils are, and what they are not—and we’ll provide facts based on available scientific research, not on rumors and myths. Here are some important tips for using Essential Oils with your cats aromatically, topically, and internally. AROMATICALLY • Water-based diffuser, especially one with an alternate on/off setting. • Spray into the air. • Direct inhalation. • On cloth, cotton ball, or bedding. TOPICALLY • ALWAYS DILUTE. • Direct application upon spine. • Massage/petting. • Reflexology points. • Ear tipping. • Direct area of interest. • In shampoo. • Roller bottle or spray. Better tolerated if applied to hands first. • Litter box. LITTER BOX POWDER RECIPE • 1 c. Diatomaceous Earth or Baking Soda • 3–4 drops Lavender Essential Oil Mix ingredients and let sit overnight (at least four hours). Sprinkle over litter. You do not have to use the full cup, just enough to cover the litter. INTERNAL USE • Generally, internal use is not indicated for cats. • You can start with a toothpick of diluted oil with wet food. • Do not put oils in water bowls for cats. They may not drink the water if you do. QUESTION – WHICH APPLICATION WILL YOU TRY WITH YOUR CAT FIRST?
