Step 9 – Muscle Tension

One of the first symptoms people often notice at the onset of stress is muscle tension. 

Stress causes individuals to tense their muscles as a fight-or-flight response to the stressful situation. 

Clenched fists or jaws, teeth grinding, or tense shoulders are all indicators that someone is under stress. 

These reactions are not problematic if they only last for short periods of time; but in cases of chronic stress, where people remain in a tense physical state for a longer period, it can cause discomfort in the head, neck, jaw, and back.
